2009 CSSC BEACH VOLLEYBALL INFORMATION
|
General Description |
Looking for the ideal social
sport? Then play Beach Volleyball in the Marda Loop, five minutes from
downtown Calgary. The CSSC offers leagues that consist of teams of
4 and teams of 6. Divisions include Recreational, Intermediate, Intermediate
Plus and Competitive. The South Calgary Community Association has 8 beach
courts, lights in the evening, a large patio and music playing during your
games. There are 24 different teams playing each night, Sunday through
Thursday. There is a Beach Volleyball Coordinator on-site facilitating the
games and maintaining the courts. All players are responsible for calling
their own fouls and managing the game. There is plenty of opportunity to meet
other players on and off the court. Many players bring cold beverages to
enjoy before and after the games or stop by one of our many Sponsor Bars for
great CSSC specials (The Tropicana is only two blocks away). Friday nights
are for Drop-in - $10 per person, everyone is welcome.

Who Can Play? |
Adults aged 18 and older can join
the Beach Volleyball leagues. All Volleyball divisions in the CSSC are co-ed
and self-officiated. The levels offered for the 6's division includes
Recreational which is for newer players and the goal is to simply get the
ball over the net, and the Intermediate level, which is for a range of skill
levels, and the goal is to get the ball over in three hits. The 4's division
is meant for players with a higher level of experience. Please see below for
a breakdown of all the levels offered. We welcome full teams, small groups (5
or more players but not a full team), friends (2-4 players) and individual
registrations. Small group, friends and individual registrations are combined
with other similar registrants to form a team that remains together for the
duration of the season. Click here for more info.

BEACH
VOLLEYBALL DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS
|
Level
|
Description
|
Intermediate 4 on 4 |
For players and teams with a more
advanced skill level than you would see in Intermediate 6's. Three hits are
done consistently, with most balls being bumped and set. Expect to see more
hitting and blocking than in intermediate 6's. You will start to see
organized attacks at this level, with some teams being more consistent than
others. |
Intermediate Plus 4
on 4 |
All players must be able to pass
with accuracy, otherwise you should register for the
Intermediate or Recreational divisions. This level will see 3 hits each
possession with organized attacks and some hard hitting. Team Goal: Get it
over the net in an organized 3 hit strategy.
|
Competitive 4 on 4 |
This division is for experienced
players. This is a fast-paced division where you will see high levels of
skill. You will see good team work and most players will be matched evenly in
terms of their skill level. Organized attacks will be made consistently in
this league. Team Goal: 3 hits each time in an organized, well-controlled
attack.
|
Recreational 6 on 6 |
For new players or teams with new
players. Little bumping and setting. Teams will try for 3 hits. No hard
hitting is allowed. Team Goal: Get it over the net - it doesn't matter how!
|
Intermediate 6 on 6 |
For players and teams with a
mixed skill level. Three hits is the goal, with decent bumping and setting.
Expect to see some hitting and blocking, although hard hitting is not
encouraged and you will typically not see strong or organized attacks.
Team Goal: try to have 3 hits on every play.
