 2009 CSSC DODGEBALL INFORMATION

General Description

Get active and have some fun this season by joining the CSSC’s fastest growing sport, Dodgeball. Despite popular belief, this is not a child’s game anymore! Get ready to dodge, dip, dive, duck and dodge, while meeting other CSSC members in one of our most social sports. The beauty is that anyone can play Dodgeball, and new players and teams pick up the skills and strategy quickly! There are various Dodgeball Tourneys throughout the year where you can sharpen your skills. It’s a 6 on 6 game, with a minimum of two females on the court at all times. We offer Really Recreational, Recreational, Recreational Plus, and Intermediate divisions. All games have a Coordinator present but you are expected to call your own fouls and be responsible for your own play. We encourage you to play with a ‘fun-first’ attitude at our various medium sized school gyms throughout the city. After your game, meet-up with your teammates and other CSSC players while enjoying exclusive specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Calgary .

New Offerings

The SSC is excited to continue our new 2009 Beach Dodgeball league into the Summer 2009 season. This is like a standard dodgeball league except it is played on sand instead of a court, with one less player. This is a great option for teams who want to get out in the fresh air and have a ton of fun!

In addition, for the first time ever, we will be offering Indoor Dodgeball in the Summer 2009 season. We will be offering Recreational and Recreational Plus, and games will be played at various private facilities within the City

Who Can Play?

Adults aged 18 and older may join any of our Dodgeball Leagues. Our leagues offer divisions for a variety of levels ranging from beginners to skilled veterans. The levels offered this season include Really Recreational, Recreational, Recreational Plus and Intermediate. For a description of each skill level, and breakdown of when we are offering each level please see below. We welcome full teams, small groups (5 or more players but not a full team), friends (2-4 players) and individual registrations. Small groups, friends and individual registrations are combined with other similar registrants to form a team that remains together for the duration of the season. Click here for more info.

 DODGEBALL DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS

Level

                                                       Description

Really Recreational

This is a FOR FUN only league! Ultra Competitive players must stay at home! This is a sport where you need to come with an open mind and a sense of humor. Players in this league are new to the sport and want to come out and throw the ball around for fun. Wins and losses do not count in this league. Standings are based on spirit points given to one another and from the GC. At the end of the season there will be a Dodgarama for two weeks that is full of costumes, games, and fun. The winner of the division is decided on by vote. Teams vote on the most fun, sportsmanlike, and outgoing teams.

Recreational

If you've played Dodgeball before or want to join a league where wins and losses count, this is the league for you! Players in this league can throw a dodgeball somewhat accurately and feel confident in their dodging abilities. Teams that have natural athletes will do well in this division.

Recreational Plus

If you have a few seasons under your belt, and want some increased competition, then this division would be up your alley. Teams in this division will show a higher level of skill and experience than the average recreational team. You may see an occasional organized attack at this level, in addition to an increase in teamwork.

Intermediate

It's still Dodgeball, but with a little more edge! Generally this division sees teams that have played together for numerous seasons. Teams are able to work together to form 'organized attacks' on their opponents.
