DIVISION DESCRIPTIONS

Division

                                                       Description

Really Recreational

In this division, players need to come with an open mind and a sense of humour. If the majority of a team is new to Football and is not overly concerned about wins and losses, then this is the right division for them. Teams can learn the sport and its rules, practice their skills, and move up to higher divisions in future seasons. Better players are expected to let up at times and there should be no disagreements over any plays, as winning is not the primary goal. A female must be an integral part (quarterback or receiver) of at least 1 play in each series. In this level, Sportsmanship ratings will have a more direct impact on each team’s standings than in higher divisions. If a Mercy score is reached in a game (28 point lead), it is mandatory for teams to switch some players and play for fun. It is mandatory for teams to switch some players and play for fun once the game has reached a mercy score, which is a 28 point lead.

Recreational

This division will feature teams that may have some skilled players, but also many inexperienced players and the team as a whole is just in it for the fun. If several of the players want to play hard and are quite competitive in nature then the team should move up to a higher level. A female must be an integral part (quarterback or receiver) of at least 1 play in each series. In this level, Sportsmanship ratings will have a more direct impact on each team’s standings than in higher divisions. Teams in this division must have a “fun first” approach to every game.

Note: This is not a super competitive division, it will just feature teams that are better than starter level. Teams that register for Recreational Plus but have had good success in this level will likely be moved up to a higher division before the season starts.
Recreational
Plus

This division is for more experienced and successful teams. Not all players need to be highly skilled; it is more about the average skill and competitiveness of the team as a whole. Note: This is not a super competitive division, it will just feature teams that are better than starter level. Teams that register for Recreational Plus but have had good success in this level will likely be moved up to a higher division before the season starts.

Note: Teams that register for Intermediate but have had good success in this level will likely be moved up to a higher division before the season starts.

Intermediate

This division is for teams that have more experience or past success than an average team in Recreational Plus. Intermediate teams are looking for a good challenge each night and don’t want to play weaker teams that will result in a blow out. Most players on the team have experience playing Football, are solid in the fundamentals, and understand how to run coordinated plays.

DIVISION NOTES

(1) SSC division offerings are based on the experience and skill level of the teams - not on their competitive behaviour. All SSC players are expected to play with a ‘fun-first, winning second’ attitude regardless of their division.

(2) The SSC may move your team up or down a division based on past results or the quality of other teams that have registered this season. Seeding for 2-3 weeks is another option the Club uses to re-align teams into the appropriate level after registering.

(3) Because the SSC does not host try-outs, teams/individuals/groups are expected to read the division descriptions and place themselves in the most appropriate division. If players are unsure of which division to register for, they are welcome to contact the office anytime for advice.
