2009 CSSC GRASS VOLLEYBALL INFORMATION

General Description

Do you dislike getting sand everywhere, but still want to play Volleyball outside? Then Grass Volleyball is the sport for you.  This fun, social sport is played at beautiful Stanley Park. The CSSC offers an Intermediate division on Wednesday nights. Enjoy all the benefits of Hard Court Volleyball with the addition of music and fun in the sun. There is an Events Coordinator on-site to facilitate games and maintain the courts, however, players are expected to call their fouls and manage the game. It’s a 6 on 6 game, with a minimum of 2 females on the court at all times. All teams play two matches per night. After your game, meet-up with your teammates and other CSSC players while enjoying exclusive specials at one of our many Sponsor Bars around Calgary.

Who Can Play?

Adults aged 18 and older can join the Grass Volleyball leagues. All Volleyball divisions in the CSSC are co-ed and self-officiated. The level offered is Intermediate, which is for players of varying skill levels, but teams should always attempt three hits on each play. We welcome full teams, small groups (5 or more players but not a full team), friends (2-4 players) and individual registrations. Small groups, friends and individual registrations are combined with other similar registrants to form a team that remains together for the duration of the season. Click here for more info.

Facility Information

If any player causes the SSC to receive a complaint regarding a field rented by the SSC will face a $100 fine and may be ejected from the league.

Games will be played at Stanley Park. Courts are set-up weekly by our Grass Volleyball Coordinator and will be ready when the players arrive.

Equipment

Wilson AVP game balls, nets and score boards will be ready at game time.

Format/Rosters

All players that participate in the league must sign the CSSC waiver.
Captains who register and pay for a full team retain complete control over their rosters, and can add or remove players as they see fit. *** If you are registering a 4’s team, please do not select “individual/friends”, select the “Team” option.
Singles and Small Group registrants are combined to form teams for the full season. Singles teams will receive their roster via email 48 hours prior to their first game.

4 on 4 Leagues

A full line-up consists of 4 on the court, with a minimum of 2 females. We recommend teams of 4-6.

6 on 6 Leagues

A full line-up consists of 6 on the court, with a minimum of 2 females. We recommend teams of 6-9.

Schedules

Schedules will be posted to the website no later than 48 hours before the first game.
Each team plays two opponents in a best of 3 match each night.
Note: The CSSC may have to schedule more than two matches in an evening if games have been cancelled due to weather or unforeseen circumstances and make-up games are being played.

Calling the Shots

The Grass volleyball coordinator's job is to set up the nets and help with rosters and scores. The Coordinator is not responsible for officiating the games. All players in CSSC volleyball leagues are responsible for keeping score, calling their own fouls and managing the game.

GRASS VOLLEYBALL LEVEL DESCRIPTIONS

Level

Description

Intermediate 4 on 4

For players and teams with a more advanced skill level than you would see in Intermediate 6's. Three hits are done consistently, with most balls being bumped and set. Expect to see more hitting and blocking than in intermediate 6's. You will start to see organized attacks at this level, with some teams being more consistent than others.

Intermediate 6 on 6

For players and teams with a mixed skill level. Three hits is the goal, with decent bumping and setting. Expect to see some hitting and blocking, although hard hitting is not encouraged and you will typically not see strong or organized attacks.
Team Goal: try to have 3 hits on every play.
