Ever show up to a field and your opponents don’t show? Or maybe you want to get a practice in with just you, yourself, and your team? I am here to help guide you through how to do just that!

To play a fun practice game you will only need 12 players; you don’t need two full teams. With 12 players, you can play 4 vs. 4 vs. 4: 4 batters, 4 infield players and 4 outfield players. When the batting team gets three outs, they rotate to play the infield, the infield goes to the outfield and then the outfield is up to bat.

More of a visual learner? Cool, me too. If you look at the diagram below, you’ll see that Team A starts at bat, Team B starts in the infield and Team C is in the outfield. After Team A gets one, two, three strikes they’re out, they shift to the infield, Team B switches to the outfield and Team C goes up to bat.

Playing this way can be challenging because you are playing short and can potentially be up to bat right after you round the bases and race home from a sweet, sweet dinger, but it is fun way to get in some more playing time and work on skills beyond a simple game of catch with your teammate.

Have fun out there!
