No Regretzkies
Captain: Julie Orton

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong (GC)
History: We are a team made up of former co-workers who always talked about getting together and doing something after work and never did. Now that we're spread out across different companies and different industries, we finally decided to get some T-Shirts made and take to the gym floor to represent Wayne's legacy of unrivalled sportsmanship, killer goals, and luscious locks. Throughout the season, we've welcomed aboard several key players who started out as subs for our team and loved our good humour (and free T-shirts) so much that they decided to stay. Our team consists of Byron the Bruiser, Rachel the Rioter, Mark "the messiest Messier", Wheezy Mike, Tyler the Ghost, One Ankle Jeff, The Great Wall of Tim, Hattrick Patrick, and Lady Jules of Hockeyton.

Claustrophobic Mimes
Captain: Jeff Kwok

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Rec Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Josh Idowu (GC)
History: Our team is called Claustrophobic Mimes which is randomly assigned by CSSC as we all registered as an individual player before forming the team. :)

Our wonderful teammates are Jeff (Captain), Chris, Corey, Crystal, David, Dujon, Frederic, Joshawa, Juliette, Marge, Sharmarke, Taylor and Wyatt.

It is our first season to form the team and play the indoor turf 6 vs 6 in CSSC. We all feel it is a valuable opportunity for us to meet and play on the same team. From unknown each other to finally familiar with each other and make friends together. Friendship is more than everything in the games.

AFC
Captain: Jason Schultz

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 25
Nominated by: Henry Gore (GC)
History: AFC started way back in 2008, and since its inception, we have focused on a fun first attitude. Winning is nice, but enjoying our time together on and off-field while playing the game we love is the goal of AFC.

Chafing the Dream
Captain: Norman Hounjet

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational  Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 - Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Josh Idowu (GC)
History: This is 'Chafing the Dream's first season with CSSC. We started as a group of teachers and the team has quickly expanded to include spouses and friends. Though we haven't won any games, we are likely in first place when it comes to attendance at the soccer centre bar post-game. We are a fun-loving team who don't take ourselves too seriously and this will most likely be our one and only season in Rec Plus, but we plan on playing together next season in the rec division.

Team Bio
Hack Attack
Captain: Marnie Palmer

Night/Div/Sport: Saturday Recreational Curling
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 - Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Warren Wall
History: This is the inaugural year for Hack Attack. Our team captain is Marnie AKA Sarge, followed by Alana AKA Bankshot. The remaining members include Cam, Brayden and Mike but they don’t get cool nicknames as they have to earn them. Lastly, it is a popular belief that our team is here for a good time and perhaps a long time if we take home the championship!

Team Bio
Master of None
Captain: Leah Fraiberg

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Rec Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Kennedy - The Airdrie Crew
History: The multi-sport league inspired our team name - Master of None. A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one. Our team was forged in friendship. We’re a team of lovers and fighters. We’re all about style points, high fives and halftime juice boxes. Although not particularly great at one sport, multi-sport has allowed us to showcase the teams' general athleticism and commitment to having a good time!

Team Bio
Baby Belugas
Captain: Ermin Chow

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Rec Plus Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 9
Nominated by: Jon Diment
History: Our team started out in Spring 2019, when we all joined as individuals, with many of us being new to the city. We ended up having lots of fun playing together and have signed up as a team ever since. We’ve also had a few new additions to the team since our first season. Our team enjoys playing different sports and going for pints afterwards. Current team members include Ermin, Mike, Julia, Celia, Jake, Bhaskar, Tori, Liam, Edbert, Alisha, Chris, and Landon.

Team Bio
Buk Hockey
Captain: Seema King

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 24
Nominated by: Sam Francois (GC)
History: Buk Hockey is made up of a group of friends that were initially outsiders but eventually came together as a team. Our team name was initially created as we wanted something to represent our lifestyle.  We try to live the “Buk-Wild” life and mixing that with our love of hockey; Buk + Hockey = Buk Hockey.  We particularly liked our name as “Buk Hockey” sounded like a large, bold, and vicious team name when, truth be told, none of us are exemplary in size or ball-handling skills.

We have now played together as a team for over 6 years playing every season with a mix of floor hockey and now trying our hand at basketball. Although our performance has at times been lacking, we seem to end up always finishing on a strong note with teamwork and fun as our main priority.  We hope to continue to play together for many more years to come, whether in Floor Hockey or any of the multiple other sports provided by the CSSC. We sincerely appreciate being nominated for the Lady Bing and hope to continue playing with a ‘fun-first’ attitude to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational Plus Basketball
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Kayla McPhee
History: Our team consists of cousins, siblings, husbands and wives and friends that we consider to be family, aka FamJam. We have been playing for about 5 years together as a team where we've gone through some major life milestones together, like birthdays, weddings and welcoming FamJam babies into the world! Our favourite aspect of playing is getting to see each other every week while getting in some good exercise and a little friendly competition. We've gotten to know some of the other teams over the years and have enjoyed the comradery this game brings, both on and off the court.

Team Bio
Swift Kick in the Grass
Captain: Jennifer Turik

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational A Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Andrea Ciaramella
History: Seven years. That's how long we (Laffie, Sabs, Jenn, Blair, Steve, Keith, Evan, Tin Tin, and Jan) have been kicking a ball around gyms, turf and grass. Hence what would become our permanent name (thanks to Sabs) 'Swift Kick in the Grass.' Seven years is a long time. Back in 2011, most of us were still in University, living at home and basically trying to figure out what to do with our lives. But through all the chaos that was our early twenties there was one constant---soccer. Much of our daily chaos hasn't subsided; in many cases it's just transformed into mortgages, kids, jobs etc. But the one thing we still have is this crazy game every Wednesday night that gives us a chance to run around, work off some stress and most importantly, hang out with friends. With luck, we'll still be coming out five, ten, twenty years from now to do what we enjoy most---spend time together.

Captain: Jacky Wong

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational Plus Basketball
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+

Soccer Lads
Captain: Brittney Felske

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational B Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Vanessa Morin
History: What up!!! We are a ragtag group of lads and lassies that love everything and anything to do with balls. Whether it’s kicking them, throwing them, catching them, or hitting them we always have balls on our minds! Nothing sexual.

Since our squad encourages fitness, we have found success not only on the turf, but as well as off ;) Although the success on the turf hasn’t been in the win column, we have had a number of hard and firm tangos with stiff competition and have been edging closer and closer to nailing our first victory! Our success on the turf has primarily been more in the sportsmanship category. We are always happy to share our enthusiasm with the other team, especially after the matches! Being a group of good-looking season veterans we plan to continue our team bonding through the many seasons of ball sports to come!

Team Bio
The Cobras
Captain: Diego Elera

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational B Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Vanessa Morin
History: Our team name originated from the Simpsons: “you can lock us away but you’ll never defeat the Cobra’s.” We’ve been playing since around 2011 I think. Our favourite aspects of soccer is the dangling, making slick passes, and missing empty nets, goals are for chumps, it’s all about the moves. Here’s some sage advice: Pizza is great, beer is delicious. Combine them together and you have something great, but not so nutritious.

Team Bio
Wookies of the Year
Captain: Chris Jackman

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational B Basketball
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Kellen Forrest
History:  The Wookies originated from Kashyyyk in a galaxy far, far away.... Haha

The origin of the name was a #fabfind from Winners. I found a shirt with Chewbacca playing Bball.  It was printed on an old school trading card on the shirt with "Wookie of the Year." Couldn't resist! As a team, we have played in the CSSC for years. Hard to even count the seasons!

We have a number of nicknames for our teammates including "Dirty Deeds Josh", "Hurricane Gabe", "D" and "She's On Fire!” But I'm stilling trying to figure out if that's a nickname for Leigh, or if that's what we always yell from bench because she's crushing shots. I usually get called "Coach Jay" as I'm usually helping some of the other players with skills and techniques at half time.

The whole team loves to just get out for a good run and have some fun. We've made some good friendships over the years and always like picking up new players who are looking to get into the sport.

Team Bio
Rubber Duckies
Captain: Al Rubin

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational B Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: William Dixon Lawson (White On Rice)
History:  This gang of the all-too-fresh go by the name of the Rubber Duckies. The name is a reference to the sport of dodgeball, as we be out here just ducking rubber. Get it? It’s pretty subtle. Starting from the viewer’s right, we have:

Soul Train: A smooth, powerful brother with locks so curly, they let him steal your girlie.

Dreamboat: A silent assassin on the court with a powerful throw. Oh, and ladies, he has abs. Lil’ Lilzy: A straight up loopy mofo. She can catch, she can dodge, and she throws a mean house party. Ice: Ignore the smile, this girl has blood so cold she can only donate it in the summer. Coach Daddio: A walking fashion show, this cat can catch throw, but the only thing he dodges are cupid’s arrows. Trunks: This hunk’s name is self explanatory. I mean, just look at those legs. Redwoods are jealous.

Just For Kicks
Captain: Austin Southerland

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational A Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 4
Nominated by: Andrea Ciaramella
History:  Just For Kicks was formed in 2018 and was build on a combination of speed, talent, and great people. Formally known as Always Split Aces, this team was coming off its first Championship Title (hence the CSSC Champion Shirts). Although we may all look like a bunch of misfits, this is a group of athletes that shows up, each and every game, ready to show why we never made the big leagues. We are honored to be nominated as one of the Lady Bing nominees and look forward to continuing to play with the attitude of “fun-first, winning second”.

Fake it till we make it
Captain: Amir Nikravan

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by:

History: "This is our second season playing CSSC, previously we played in a basketball league and figured that wasn't' our sport. We decided to take-up multi-sport this season and we have really enjoyed it, the best part is that it gives a chance for someone new to show off their talents each week. Our team name just comes from trying to pretend like we are good at sports, when it's more of a struggle than it looks."

Buccaneers
Captain: Andrew Parke

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 4
Nominated by:

History: "The name Buccaneers was inspired by a teammate over some champagne. This is our 4th season in the CSSC. Our favourite aspect of the sport we play is that it’s the most fun team we have ever played with. We don’t stop laughing and look forward to every Tuesday. The team started with a several team members who didn’t know each other at all. The team now hangs out outside of softball."

Smokin Bats
Captain: Ryan Pezzack

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Plus Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 5
History: "The Smokin Bats have been around for about 10 years and our current group of players are the “3rdgeneration” of the team. So we have no idea how our team name came about, but we stuck with it! Our team has played with the CSSCfor the last 5 years or so. We’re a team of nicknames, and newcomers never know our first names. Our team consists of: Pezz(our organizer and ‘captain’), Zip, Ricey, Joudrey(Sometimes named Slow-drey), Skidmore, Chewie, Payn, Stinger, Craig, Cliff, Sam, Mom, MVP, K-Pants, and Chips. We show up to win, and stay for the beers and good company. You’ll always find our team hanging around the diamond afterwards socializing or making fun of each other. What makes our team special is were all a good group of friends and as we get older and busier ball has been a nice way for everyone to keep in touch and catch up every week."

Bad News Barristers
Captain: Antonio Corbo

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
History: "This is our first season playing in the CSSC. Some of us have played before, but for a lot of us, this was our first time playing softball. In the picture you have (from left top row, to left bottom row): Clint, Antonio (Tone), Laura, Brianne, Rhiannon, Kris, Ben, Monique (Moe), Kelsey, Stephanie (Scotty), and Jenna. We got the name of the Bad News Barristers because we all work at a law firm (funny right?). We all enjoy the team atmosphere and getting out of the office to be active and have fun. We want to thank the team that nominated us, and thank everyone we played against for being awesome. Thank you."

Panic! At The Disc Throw
Captain: Antonio Tannas

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Ultimate
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
History: "Panic! At The Disc Throw was founded on the idea that running around throwing Frisbees is a great way to spend an afternoon and proven method to make beer taste even better. This is our first ever season playing, but what we lack in skills, we more than make up for in spirit. Whether it’s playing Toto’s Africa loudly on a Bluetooth speaker, our signature chant of 1-2-3 PANIC! Or the fact that we’ve never missed post game beers (even when the games have been cancelled due to weather), we always show up and give it our best. We’re thrilled to have been nominated for the Lady Bing Sportsmanship award, and hope to see you all out there on the field!"
Team Bio
Chupacabra FC
Captain: Austin Mireault

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational Outdoor Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5

History: "Chupacabra have been with CSSC for almost 5 years now. We play outdoors during the summer/spring and turf soccer during the winter/fall. Our favourite part of the sport is giving each other a hard time when we mess up. We chose the name because our founding captain panicked and picked whatever came to his mind on the first season. We’ve really embraced it since!"

Spring 2018 Winners

Multiple Scoregasms
Captain: Megan White

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Annita Wilton
History: "Our team was built primarily out of co-workers and some spouses. We also had a father-in-law join as well. This was the first team we had that was our own and not an individuals team and we really found our groove! We had a blast making our players wear the strike-out tutu and even shared it with some good spirited opponents! Our favorite part about baseball is that everyone gets their shot. You don't have to be the fastest or the best hitter to shine in ball. Everyone gets their moment at the plate. It brings out the best spirit in everyone when every player gets up and leaves it all on the field every time, regardless of experience or skill level."

SONS
Captain: Martin Danielek

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Intermediate Slo-pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Zach Foster
History: "The SONS, formerly Sons of Pitches, was created 6 years ago here in Calgary rising in the ranks in the CSCC. We shortened the name to SONS as we believe we are the OG (original) Sons of Pitches to remove any potential confusion for opposing teams. We are a group of young professionals who have used the team to stay in touch and have fun despite all the changes we face in life… Two of our teammates had a boy a year ago (Parker) who is aiming to try out for the team ASAP as his dad is already teaching him to hit dingers. We’re pumped to be nominated for this award as most teams only notice how the raw skill of the women on our team. Shout out to all the teammates."

History: "Dodgey Ballocks started as a group of doe eyed and hopeful individuals, out to play some sports and socialize with other humans. Championship hopefuls, beer drinkers and general shenanigan seeking, The Dodgey Ballocks is a team with heart, if not much brains."

Sons of Pitches
Captain: Riley Junior

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational Slo-pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 4
Nominated by: Matt Goodwin
History: "Forged in the fires of team spirit and the desire to drink after games, our founding fathers, Riley Junior (AKA Bubba J) and James Young (AKA Big Sexy), created the team that we now know as Sons of Pitches (est. 2015). Although players have come and gone from season to season, our core belief has remained the same; no matter the outcome of the game, there are cold beers and nachos waiting for us at the end. The faith that we have in this ideology is one, that although simple, is sometimes hard to stick to. Thankfully we have grandmaster Russ Drackett (AKA DiMaggio) to reign us in and keep us on the righteous path of good sportsmanship. Playing in the CSSC softball league has established new fellowships as well as solidifying old ones. We all look forward to playing in the seasons to come and to spread our team spirit throughout the league."

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Intermediate Indoor Volleyball
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
History: "The Serv-ivors came to be during a busy tax season and the need to get out and stretch our legs after being chained to our desks for months. The majority of our team members work for the same tax firm in Downtown Calgary. We started playing as a team for Calgary Corporate Challenge in 2017 and decided to branch out into CSSC. The team name was coined as an ode to the ever popular tv series Survivor, simply because it's a great show. The Serv-ivors enjoy the post volleyball beers and long walks on the beach."

Beer Sox
Captain: Jay Mclean

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational South Slo-pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Ashten Monk
History: "This is the 4th version of the Beer Sox over the past 7 years. There's been a couple main-stays within the organization who have been around since it all started but the team typically picks up a hefty amount of free agents most off-seasons. Our team name, Beer Sox, is fairly self-explanatory. We like to drink copious amounts of beer, of course, in a safe and responsible manner while keeping our wits about us. Our entire team makes a strong effort to cheer and encourage other teammates on as well as complement the other team when they make a good play. We cheer hard but we do it in a respectful and fair manner."

We have played quite a few years in the CSSC, maybe 6 or 7 but we have some new players as well who are playing ultimate for the first time! Our favourite aspect is definitely meeting new people and having fun. Our motto is if we score one point we have won so sometimes get way too excited when we score a point in the late stages of a game and are down by 6 or 7 to 0."

Captain: Erin Gardiner

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational Slo-pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Megan Fleming
History: "This is the second year that I'd Hit That has been in the CSSC. We are a group of co-workers who all have a passion for slo-pitch. We range in experience levels from beginner to advanced but come out for the competitive spirit and the fun. We have gotten to know co-workers from various areas of our company and find that it’s truly a great investment in building a great team culture for our company! Thursdays around the office are a rally to see who is playing that night, where we are in the standings, wondering if it’s going to rain. And then Fridays in the lunch room are a recap of the plays from the game the night before and lots of laughs!"

The team was listed as "The Snow", however, and that's the name we've used since.  The roster has changed frequently over the years, however several original team members still play, and many more of us have been with the team for at least seven or eight years now.  And for us, the team camaraderie is our favourite aspect of dodgeball and CSSC."

Our team isn’t a group of people that have known each other forever but a group of people that definitely know how to have fun! Thanks to the CSSC we get to share our interests on the field and off the field with an occasional drink and bite to eat. We believe we’re a prime example of where there’s passion in your heart and good people around, fun isn’t too far away either.

District 5
Captain: Jeff Lindstrom

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational A Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 5
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong
History: The origin of our team number was from a Mighty Ducks movie.  More of less the under dog team trying to prevail! I would say this is probably our 5th season and typically play in the Winter and Spring. I love playing goalie as it’s something I’ve done since I was a kid.  Growing up I played a lot of street hockey and floor hockey.  The captain of our team introduced me to the CSSC and that you have Floor Hockey as a sport so needless to say I was super excited to be able to play again! Coincidentally they needed a goalie too! Some players have come and gone over the years but most of our core has stayed intact. Just wanted to say we enjoy playing floor hockey with the CSSC and I tell friends and clients about it and your leagues.  I really find it’s a good way to break up the week, get some exercise, socialize and have some fun!
