Winter 2022

Team Bio
No Regretzkies
Captain: Julie Orton

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong (GC)
History: We are a team made up of former co-workers who always talked about getting together and doing something after work and never did. Now that we're spread out across different companies and different industries, we finally decided to get some T-Shirts made and take to the gym floor to represent Wayne's legacy of unrivalled sportsmanship, killer goals, and luscious locks. Throughout the season, we've welcomed aboard several key players who started out as subs for our team and loved our good humour (and free T-shirts) so much that they decided to stay. Our team consists of Byron the Bruiser, Rachel the Rioter, Mark "the messiest Messier", Wheezy Mike, Tyler the Ghost, One Ankle Jeff, The Great Wall of Tim, Hattrick Patrick, and Lady Jules of Hockeyton.

Claustrophobic Mimes
Captain: Jeff Kwok

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Rec Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Josh Idowu (GC)
History: Our team is called Claustrophobic Mimes which is randomly assigned by CSSC as we all registered as an individual player before forming the team. :)

Our wonderful teammates are Jeff (Captain), Chris, Corey, Crystal, David, Dujon, Frederic, Joshawa, Juliette, Marge, Sharmarke, Taylor and Wyatt.

It is our first season to form the team and play the indoor turf 6 vs 6 in CSSC. We all feel it is a valuable opportunity for us to meet and play on the same team. From unknown each other to finally familiar with each other and make friends together. Friendship is more than everything in the games.

AFC
Captain: Jason Schultz

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 25
Nominated by: Henry Gore (GC)
History: AFC started way back in 2008, and since its inception, we have focused on a fun first attitude. Winning is nice, but enjoying our time together on and off-field while playing the game we love is the goal of AFC.

Team Bio
Chafing the Dream
Captain: Norman Hounjet

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational  Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 - Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Josh Idowu (GC)
History: This is 'Chafing the Dream's first season with CSSC. We started as a group of teachers and the team has quickly expanded to include spouses and friends. Though we haven't won any games, we are likely in first place when it comes to attendance at the soccer centre bar post-game. We are a fun-loving team who don't take ourselves too seriously and this will most likely be our one and only season in Rec Plus, but we plan on playing together next season in the rec division.

Team Bio
Hack Attack
Captain: Marnie Palmer

Night/Div/Sport: Saturday Recreational Curling
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 - Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Warren Wall
History: This is the inaugural year for Hack Attack. Our team captain is Marnie AKA Sarge, followed by Alana AKA Bankshot. The remaining members include Cam, Brayden and Mike but they don’t get cool nicknames as they have to earn them. Lastly, it is a popular belief that our team is here for a good time and perhaps a long time if we take home the championship!

Team Bio
Master of None
Captain: Leah Fraiberg

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Rec Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Kennedy - The Airdrie Crew
History: The multi-sport league inspired our team name - Master of None. A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one. Our team was forged in friendship. We’re a team of lovers and fighters. We’re all about style points, high fives and halftime juice boxes. Although not particularly great at one sport, multi-sport has allowed us to showcase the teams' general athleticism and commitment to having a good time!

Team Bio
Baby Belugas
Captain: Ermin Chow

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Rec Plus Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 9
Nominated by: Jon Diment
History: Our team started out in Spring 2019, when we all joined as individuals, with many of us being new to the city. We ended up having lots of fun playing together and have signed up as a team ever since. We’ve also had a few new additions to the team since our first season. Our team enjoys playing different sports and going for pints afterwards. Current team members include Ermin, Mike, Julia, Celia, Jake, Bhaskar, Tori, Liam, Edbert, Alisha, Chris, and Landon.

Team Bio
Buk Hockey
Captain: Seema King

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 24
Nominated by: Sam Francois (GC)
History: Buk Hockey is made up of a group of friends that were initially outsiders but eventually came together as a team. Our team name was initially created as we wanted something to represent our lifestyle.  We try to live the “Buk-Wild” life and mixing that with our love of hockey; Buk + Hockey = Buk Hockey.  We particularly liked our name as “Buk Hockey” sounded like a large, bold, and vicious team name when, truth be told, none of us are exemplary in size or ball-handling skills.

We have now played together as a team for over 6 years playing every season with a mix of floor hockey and now trying our hand at basketball. Although our performance has at times been lacking, we seem to end up always finishing on a strong note with teamwork and fun as our main priority.  We hope to continue to play together for many more years to come, whether in Floor Hockey or any of the multiple other sports provided by the CSSC. We sincerely appreciate being nominated for the Lady Bing and hope to continue playing with a ‘fun-first’ attitude to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Team Bio
Free Nachos For Every Two Players
Captain: Gavin Day

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Basketball
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Sam Francois (GC)
History: Our team name is Free Nachos For Every Two Players because we love to take advantage of the Canadian brewhouse deal after or before our games. This is now our second season in the league, and plan to keep coming back! Our team members' names are Gavin, Haley, matt, Carter, Kaley, Alyssa, Shayla, Janna, Courtney, Easton, Kyle, Luke, Hamed, Jared, and Tory.

Team Bio
Ball Swinging Good Timers
Captain: Brad Brock

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Alex Bilton
History: The “Ball Swinging Good Timers” came together for the first time in the Spring of 2017 as a team of masters students who have never played slo-pitch before. Inevitably, we lost every game and were mercied most of the time, but still had fun fumbling around with the ball! The original team members include Kyla (Fancy Pants), Cam (Jazzlib), and Scott (Gymnasty). Throughout the years, we lost some players and gained others through friends including Rae (Catchin Raes), Brad (Hit N Run), Brent (Gould 911), Anne (AK47), Jeff (Jay-Z), and Griffin (Twinkle toes). One year, we didn’t have enough players and had to register as a small group; this is where we met our amazing Ricardo (Mazatlán), who has been with us ever since! Our team was named by Kyla, as she thought this was a common baseball saying but found out immediately that no one knew what she was talking about, then we just kept it from there! Our teams’ favourite part of the sport is getting together to hang and meet new people! We also love to joke and razz each other, always in the name of good sportsmanship and friendship!

Heavy Hitters
Captain: Heather Currie

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Plus Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Ashten Monk
History: The Heavy Hitters are so honoured to be nominated for the Lady Bing!  We have a really neat story: our slo-pitch team is made up of two different individual teams from this Summer who had so much fun, we merged those from each team who could play Fall Ball into one amazing team!  It goes to show how CSSC draws in such great people, that even a randomly selected group of people can forge awesome sport chemistry and friendships.  While we don’t have nicknames or jerseys (yet!), it seems we’re so in sync with each other that for our Finals, we inadvertently and without any planning showed up in matching outfits.  After our Final game, we fired up the grill and enjoyed an end of season BBQ.  We’re already planning our next social get together and playing in the Spring season.  Thank you, CSSC, for bringing us together!

Team Bio
Caught Looking
Captain: Jason Lemke

Night/Div/Sport: Friday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Annita Wilton
History: This marked the second year that most of the team has played together. We started off as the individual’s team in last year’s fall league and what a great group it was. Everybody was super friendly and we always had a great time playing so we got enough of us back together this year to make a team. Between the returning teammates and some great additions from people met in summer league, we once again had an awesome group of people put together this year. We may not have won any games this season, but we all still enjoy ourselves, it goes to show the “fun-first” mentality of the CSSC leagues. I think the team agrees, our favourite part isn’t the gameplay at all, but rather getting to meet some really great people and form friendships that go past the ball diamond. Covid may have put a stop to our post-game pub tradition, but we’ve fortunately made the most of it with a post-game fire pit most weeks. With the season complete, we can hardly wait for spring to come around to get back to it!

Team Bio
Blue Crabs
Captain: Evan Longdo

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Plus Outdoor Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Adrienne Bursa
History: Our team is the Blue Crabs, named after the U10 soccer team of the younger brother of one of our first players (We like to think that he dreams of being called up from the “Farm Team” Blue Crabs to the “Premier League” Blue Crabs one day). This is our fourth year in the CSSC, and we won our first championship this past summer! Our favourite part of the game is the bonds of friendship formed by playing a team sport and having fun together. And of course going out for beers after the game!

Team Bio
S.N.A.P.
Captain: Jacqui Lim

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Ultimate
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Adam Schnarnau
History: S.N.A.P has been playing ultimate together since 2007, but our roster is constantly evolving. This fall we had Jumping Jacqui, Keen Karen, Rambunctious Ryan, Mighty Matt, Sassy Sarah, Running Robin, Crazy Chris and Rhetorical Rob. We all love the game, but are not-so-secretly most excited about the post-game pizza and beers. We're frequently asked what "S.N.A.P." stands for, and honestly we can't quite remember ourselves, but best guess is the "Super Nice Association of Peers".

Team Bio
Goal Diggers
Captain: Freuda Kang

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Bouba Badio (GC)
History: We started playing outdoor soccer last summer (2019) after playing indoor archery tag. Majority of us never played soccer before and now we love it! When there's a chance we would meet up and practice. We're like a little family now. #pinksockgang

Seasons in the CSSC: 1 (Rookie Season!)

Thunder Ninja Kids
Captain: Cynthia Nilsson

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational B Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Brook Graham
History: The Thunder Ninja Kids are named after a ridiculous movie from the 80s where martial arts genius children defeat evil. It is a terrible movie and all of our members are old enough to have watched it, so we’ve been playing for a while.

Team Bio
Buk Hockey
Captain: Seema King

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Dana Andrews
History: Our team name was initially created as we wanted something to represent our lifestyle.  We try to live the “Buk-Wild” life and mixing that with our love of hockey; Buk + Hockey = Buk Hockey.  We particularly liked our name as “Buk Hockey” sounded like a large, bold, and vicious team name when, truth be told, none of us are exemplary in size or ball handling skills. We hope to continue to play together for many more years to come, rather in Floor Hockey or any of the multiple other sports provided by the CSSC.  We sincerely appreciate being selected for the Lady Bing and hope to continue playing with a ‘fun-first’ attitude to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Team Bio
Polar Bears
Captain: Shawn Hyer

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5
Nominated by: Josh Idowu
History: The Polar Bears are a group formed with wonderful teammates both new and old. Our love for sport and making friends is what brings us together and unites us. Our team isn’t a group of people that have known each other forever but a group of people that definitely know how to have fun! Thanks to the CSSC we get to share our interests on the field and off the field with an occasional drink and bite to eat. We believe we’re a prime example of where there’s passion in your heart and good people around, fun isn’t too far away either.

Team Bio
District 5
Captain: Jeff Lindstrom

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational A Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 5
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong
History: The origin of our team number was from a Mighty Ducks movie.  More of less the under dog team trying to prevail! I would say this is probably our 5th season and typically play in the Winter and Spring. I love playing goalie as it’s something I’ve done since I was a kid.  Growing up I played a lot of street hockey and floor hockey.  The captain of our team introduced me to the CSSC and that you have Floor Hockey as a sport so needless to say I was super excited to be able to play again! Coincidentally they needed a goalie too! Some players have come and gone over the years but most of our core has stayed intact. Just wanted to say we enjoy playing floor hockey with the CSSC and I tell friends and clients about it and your leagues.  I really find it’s a good way to break up the week, get some exercise, socialize and have some fun!

Injured AF-C
Captain: "Moose" Abed

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Josh Idowu
History: Injured AF-C is the greatest iteration of a team that has been running for 5 years! Our skills include keeping the ball too long, missing chances, postgame drinking, being best friends, and injuring ourselves. Our awesome & often injured roster includes: Allie, Amjad, Barry, Chris & Felicia, Christina, Colin & Taylor, Dylan & Sophie, Hardip, Kara (C) & Moose (A), Leo, Linsay, Lindsey, Liz, Mike x2, Patrick, Ray, and Tom!

Team Bio
Dandelion Kickers
Captain: Brittany Fleck

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Gym Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Josh Idowu
History: This team stayed together for over two years switching between indoor/outdoor/turf soccer (and one volleyball championship while maintaining the Dandelion Kickers team name). With a hiccup in timing, we needed to move nights this past fall and were only able to maintain a small core group of people. Picking up some new faces we are continuing to be active and more importantly having fun!

It's About To Get Messi
Captain: Ursula Welsh

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Boarded Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+

History: Our team name is "It's About To Get Messi". Our soccer team has played in CSSC for 3 years now.  We love being able to get active in a fun environment with our friends. We have players from all different backgrounds, and playing soccer has really brought us together. CSSC has given us the opportunity to share fun experiences on and off the field.

Balls & Dolls
Captain: Lisa Pedicino

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Jocelyn Carriere
History: "This is our first ever season with CSSC and we absolutely loved it! We picked the Multi-Sport league as so many of us have a diverse range of talents within sports. We also love that what one player may lack the other totally makes up for in certain sports. It's been great playing with each other and learning from one another every week. My Fiancé and I started the team and got all of our friends to join, it's pretty  much our wedding party coming together every week! Andrew and I came up with Balls & Dolls one day as we were pondering what to call ourselves. We loved that we had just as many females as males on the team so we thought it was a perfect fit! We have had a blast playing and can't wait for the Winter league to start! I told the team about our nomination and we are thrilled. We definitely aim to be the best sports when playing and it's great to get acknowledged, especially in our first season".
Team Bio
Rocket Orange
Captain: Kevin Weerahandi

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Floor Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 7
Nominated by: Kellen Forrest
History: "We have been playing floor hockey with the CSSC for 7 seasons now. I think most members of our team enjoy the opportunity to just get out of the house once a week, socialize with others and conveniently get a little exercise while doing it. I personally also like CSSC floor hockey specifically because it is a team sport that you can just start without any previous experience and have a great time. Our team name doesn't really have much of an origin story to it other than orange is a color no other teams seem to wear, the ball we use looks like an orange, and the goal is to "rocket" the orange ball right into the net for the win! Rocket Orange. A couple of people on our team have unofficial nicknames sometimes yelled from the sidelines including Crazy Legs, Tank and Turkey Butt".
Team Bio
Hit for Brains
Captain: Carol Mulley

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Indoor Volleyball
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Jessica DeRaaf
History: "Here is a picture of our team "Hit for Brains" at one of our team-building activities. We have played with CSSC for about 4 years. Our name comes from one of our team members. It's how he affectionately refers to his kids. We love the fun & friendly nature of CSSC's volleyball league.”

Pandamonium
Captain: Kevin Trefry

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Flag Football
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Cole Fortner
History: “Pandamonium has been a part of CSSC for 3 years now playing in the spring and summer leagues and just this year tried the fall league. We have enjoyed playing flag football as it is a nice way to get out in the sun, get some good exercise and play a fun game with friends and strangers alike. Our team is made of family, friends and the new people we bring along every year who we think will have a good time playing with the team. We have been called the panda team multiple times due to our distinct baseball panda shirts we have. We are looking forward to playing more flag football and other sports with CSSC in the future.

The Outsliders
Captain: Marnie Palmer

Night/Div/Sport: Saturday Recreational Curling
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Meagan Mitchel
History: “The Outsliders have been together for 3 seasons. Our gang consists of Marnie “Ponyboy” Palmer, Lana “Two-bit” Luba, “Johnny” Carson Jassman, and Mike “Dally” Waisman.  We occasionally recruit Brayden “Sodapop” Palmer as our spare Outslider!  Our favourite aspect of the game comes from mixing up the Socials and the Greaser’s especially if we are sharing a pint at the end of the game.  I think our success comes from the simple words we live by.....stay gold!”
Team Bio
Blue Balls
Captain: Laura LaGrange

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational Basketball
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Bill Camarillo
History: “We are team “Blue Balls”. We are a bunch of rugby players, with the Calgary Rams Rugby Club, who wanted something fun to do during our off season that would keep us all together. We have mainly women with two men from our men’s division, who are phenomenal rugby players who range from the Premier level of rugby (highest level of club rugby) down to division 3 (just for fun). We are a tight knit club who enjoy spending time together both on and off the pitch. This is our first season with CSSC and so far we are loving it. We don’t expect much out of this as only a couple of us have played basketball competitively before while the rest have not. We are a fun loving team and you will be sure to laugh your butt off if you watch us play. Between not knowing the rules or knowing how to shoot/pass/dribble. To our fun banter on the court. The origin of our name is basically because our Rugby colours are blue and we are playing basketball… Blue Balls. Thanks for nominating us!”
Team Bio
Tiger Balmers
Captain: Danny Wong

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Plus Floor Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong
History: “We actually started out as a group of friends in 2009 and have added many new faces since then.  We may have been known as Ballz of Glory or Chicken Run at some time, but after trying out the legends 35+ league for a few seasons, a name change to Tiger Balmers felt a bit more appropriate - we're all getting up there in age and these days we need all the help we can get in taking care of all the bruises and joint aches accumulated over the years =) We continue to play because we all enjoy getting the exercise in a casual, fun-filled environment.  Not to mention the occasional ribbing from the GC's who recognize us on a first-name basis by now!”

Sneakered Snipers
Captain: Susie de Teves

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Floor Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Ashley Barton
History: “I started my team Sneakered Snipers in the Fall of 2009 which means we've been in CSSC for 8 calendar years. What initially was just a Fall/Winter filler after Softball season is now something we look forward to playing each and every week. We love playing hockey, but, more importantly being able to forget about the craziness of life for a couple hours and hang out with our buddies. In 8 years this is the first time being nominated for the Lady Bing Award which is a testament to how far we've come. We still have half the team playing from the original roster but we've had to weed out a few hooligans along the way. This only happened after adopting the slogan "Fun First, Winning Second". CSSC is well organized and a fun league to be part of. Thank you for nominating us!!”

Balls 'n' Dolls
Captain: Brittany Kolba

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Foam Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Ashley Jones
History: “Balls ‘n’ Dolls was formed for the sole purpose of escaping the house for a few hours each week and getting active. Little did we know, games can end quickly...like...in 8 minutes haha. But, we can tell it was a “good” game if we leave with sore faces from laughing the entire time. Our score card may be weak but our desire to have a great time and earn our post-game tacos and margs is strong".
