No Regretzkies
Captain: Julie Orton

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong (GC)
History: We are a team made up of former co-workers who always talked about getting together and doing something after work and never did. Now that we're spread out across different companies and different industries, we finally decided to get some T-Shirts made and take to the gym floor to represent Wayne's legacy of unrivalled sportsmanship, killer goals, and luscious locks. Throughout the season, we've welcomed aboard several key players who started out as subs for our team and loved our good humour (and free T-shirts) so much that they decided to stay. Our team consists of Byron the Bruiser, Rachel the Rioter, Mark "the messiest Messier", Wheezy Mike, Tyler the Ghost, One Ankle Jeff, The Great Wall of Tim, Hattrick Patrick, and Lady Jules of Hockeyton.

Team Bio
Claustrophobic Mimes
Captain: Jeff Kwok

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Rec Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Josh Idowu (GC)
History: Our team is called Claustrophobic Mimes which is randomly assigned by CSSC as we all registered as an individual player before forming the team. :)

Our wonderful teammates are Jeff (Captain), Chris, Corey, Crystal, David, Dujon, Frederic, Joshawa, Juliette, Marge, Sharmarke, Taylor and Wyatt.

It is our first season to form the team and play the indoor turf 6 vs 6 in CSSC. We all feel it is a valuable opportunity for us to meet and play on the same team. From unknown each other to finally familiar with each other and make friends together. Friendship is more than everything in the games.

Team Bio
AFC
Captain: Jason Schultz

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 25
Nominated by: Henry Gore (GC)
History: AFC started way back in 2008, and since its inception, we have focused on a fun first attitude. Winning is nice, but enjoying our time together on and off-field while playing the game we love is the goal of AFC.

Team Bio
Chafing the Dream
Captain: Norman Hounjet

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational  Plus Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 - Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Josh Idowu (GC)
History: This is 'Chafing the Dream's first season with CSSC. We started as a group of teachers and the team has quickly expanded to include spouses and friends. Though we haven't won any games, we are likely in first place when it comes to attendance at the soccer centre bar post-game. We are a fun-loving team who don't take ourselves too seriously and this will most likely be our one and only season in Rec Plus, but we plan on playing together next season in the rec division.

Team Bio
Hack Attack
Captain: Marnie Palmer

Night/Div/Sport: Saturday Recreational Curling
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 - Rookie Season!
Nominated by: Warren Wall
History: This is the inaugural year for Hack Attack. Our team captain is Marnie AKA Sarge, followed by Alana AKA Bankshot. The remaining members include Cam, Brayden and Mike but they don’t get cool nicknames as they have to earn them. Lastly, it is a popular belief that our team is here for a good time and perhaps a long time if we take home the championship!

Team Bio
Master of None
Captain: Leah Fraiberg

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Rec Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Kennedy - The Airdrie Crew
History: The multi-sport league inspired our team name - Master of None. A Jack of all trades is a master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one. Our team was forged in friendship. We’re a team of lovers and fighters. We’re all about style points, high fives and halftime juice boxes. Although not particularly great at one sport, multi-sport has allowed us to showcase the teams' general athleticism and commitment to having a good time!

Team Bio
Baby Belugas
Captain: Ermin Chow

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Rec Plus Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 9
Nominated by: Jon Diment
History: Our team started out in Spring 2019, when we all joined as individuals, with many of us being new to the city. We ended up having lots of fun playing together and have signed up as a team ever since. We’ve also had a few new additions to the team since our first season. Our team enjoys playing different sports and going for pints afterwards. Current team members include Ermin, Mike, Julia, Celia, Jake, Bhaskar, Tori, Liam, Edbert, Alisha, Chris, and Landon.

Team Bio
Buk Hockey
Captain: Seema King

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 24
Nominated by: Sam Francois (GC)
History: Buk Hockey is made up of a group of friends that were initially outsiders but eventually came together as a team. Our team name was initially created as we wanted something to represent our lifestyle.  We try to live the “Buk-Wild” life and mixing that with our love of hockey; Buk + Hockey = Buk Hockey.  We particularly liked our name as “Buk Hockey” sounded like a large, bold, and vicious team name when, truth be told, none of us are exemplary in size or ball-handling skills.

We have now played together as a team for over 6 years playing every season with a mix of floor hockey and now trying our hand at basketball. Although our performance has at times been lacking, we seem to end up always finishing on a strong note with teamwork and fun as our main priority.  We hope to continue to play together for many more years to come, whether in Floor Hockey or any of the multiple other sports provided by the CSSC. We sincerely appreciate being nominated for the Lady Bing and hope to continue playing with a ‘fun-first’ attitude to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Team Bio
Free Nachos For Every Two Players
Captain: Gavin Day

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Basketball
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Sam Francois (GC)
History: Our team name is Free Nachos For Every Two Players because we love to take advantage of the Canadian brewhouse deal after or before our games. This is now our second season in the league, and plan to keep coming back! Our team members' names are Gavin, Haley, matt, Carter, Kaley, Alyssa, Shayla, Janna, Courtney, Easton, Kyle, Luke, Hamed, Jared, and Tory.

Fall 2019 Winners

Team Bio
Ball Swinging Good Timers
Captain: Brad Brock

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Alex Bilton
History: The “Ball Swinging Good Timers” came together for the first time in the Spring of 2017 as a team of masters students who have never played slo-pitch before. Inevitably, we lost every game and were mercied most of the time, but still had fun fumbling around with the ball! The original team members include Kyla (Fancy Pants), Cam (Jazzlib), and Scott (Gymnasty). Throughout the years, we lost some players and gained others through friends including Rae (Catchin Raes), Brad (Hit N Run), Brent (Gould 911), Anne (AK47), Jeff (Jay-Z), and Griffin (Twinkle toes). One year, we didn’t have enough players and had to register as a small group; this is where we met our amazing Ricardo (Mazatlán), who has been with us ever since! Our team was named by Kyla, as she thought this was a common baseball saying but found out immediately that no one knew what she was talking about, then we just kept it from there! Our teams’ favourite part of the sport is getting together to hang and meet new people! We also love to joke and razz each other, always in the name of good sportsmanship and friendship!

Team Bio
Heavy Hitters
Captain: Heather Currie

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Plus Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Ashten Monk
History: The Heavy Hitters are so honoured to be nominated for the Lady Bing!  We have a really neat story: our slo-pitch team is made up of two different individual teams from this Summer who had so much fun, we merged those from each team who could play Fall Ball into one amazing team!  It goes to show how CSSC draws in such great people, that even a randomly selected group of people can forge awesome sport chemistry and friendships.  While we don’t have nicknames or jerseys (yet!), it seems we’re so in sync with each other that for our Finals, we inadvertently and without any planning showed up in matching outfits.  After our Final game, we fired up the grill and enjoyed an end of season BBQ.  We’re already planning our next social get together and playing in the Spring season.  Thank you, CSSC, for bringing us together!

Team Bio
Caught Looking
Captain: Jason Lemke

Night/Div/Sport: Friday Recreational Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Annita Wilton
History: This marked the second year that most of the team has played together. We started off as the individual’s team in last year’s fall league and what a great group it was. Everybody was super friendly and we always had a great time playing so we got enough of us back together this year to make a team. Between the returning teammates and some great additions from people met in summer league, we once again had an awesome group of people put together this year. We may not have won any games this season, but we all still enjoy ourselves, it goes to show the “fun-first” mentality of the CSSC leagues. I think the team agrees, our favourite part isn’t the gameplay at all, but rather getting to meet some really great people and form friendships that go past the ball diamond. Covid may have put a stop to our post-game pub tradition, but we’ve fortunately made the most of it with a post-game fire pit most weeks. With the season complete, we can hardly wait for spring to come around to get back to it!

Team Bio
Blue Crabs
Captain: Evan Longdo

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Plus Outdoor Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Adrienne Bursa
History: Our team is the Blue Crabs, named after the U10 soccer team of the younger brother of one of our first players (We like to think that he dreams of being called up from the “Farm Team” Blue Crabs to the “Premier League” Blue Crabs one day). This is our fourth year in the CSSC, and we won our first championship this past summer! Our favourite part of the game is the bonds of friendship formed by playing a team sport and having fun together. And of course going out for beers after the game!

Team Bio
S.N.A.P.
Captain: Jacqui Lim

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Ultimate
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Adam Schnarnau
History: S.N.A.P has been playing ultimate together since 2007, but our roster is constantly evolving. This fall we had Jumping Jacqui, Keen Karen, Rambunctious Ryan, Mighty Matt, Sassy Sarah, Running Robin, Crazy Chris and Rhetorical Rob. We all love the game, but are not-so-secretly most excited about the post-game pizza and beers. We're frequently asked what "S.N.A.P." stands for, and honestly we can't quite remember ourselves, but best guess is the "Super Nice Association of Peers".

Team Bio
Goal Diggers
Captain: Freuda Kang

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 3
Nominated by: Bouba Badio (GC)
History: We started playing outdoor soccer last summer (2019) after playing indoor archery tag. Majority of us never played soccer before and now we love it! When there's a chance we would meet up and practice. We're like a little family now. #pinksockgang

Winter 2023

Team Bio
Ballz & Dollz
Captain: Cathreen L

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Rec B Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Zane
History: We are Ballz & Dollz, a group of nurses who decided to make a Dodgeball team for fun. This is our first season and none of us has played Dodgeball before. We are here to enjoy our time with friends, win or loose! We are enjoying our time, and learning new things as we go. We hope to keep playing together in the upcoming seasons!

That's What She Set
Captain: Lee C

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Rec Plus Volleyball
Seasons in the CSSC: 14
Nominated by: Jaye I
History: That’s What She Set began in 2015, but this core team has been consistent for the past 5 years with Louise being the captain for the majority of the years. The team players are Louise, Barry, Kyle, Jaye, Kevyann, Craig and Captain Lee. We don’t take volleyball too seriously, but we take our wings more seriously once we are done playing! We plan to do this for many more years even if we are becoming one of the 'more mature' teams out there!

Wine and Cheese
Captain: Kyle N

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Rec Plus Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 10
Nominated by: Sam
History: This will be our teams 10th season of Multi-Sport. The team name came about after we decided to form our Multi-Sport team at a “wine and cheese” party. Our favourite aspect of playing in the Multi-Sport league, besides the beers and wings afterwards, is the variety of sports we get to play and how that gives everyone their own time to shine throughout the season and keeps things fresh!

Birdie Buddies
Captain: Chantel C

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Badminton
Seasons in the CSSC: 1
Nominated by: Denise
History: We wanted a team name was cute, and not intimidating because we are new to Badminton in CSSC. We picked a bunch of birdie names and drew from a hat and ended up with Birdie Buddies!

Chantel has played 8 seasons in various other sports like Ball Hockey and Volleyball, but hadn't played Badminton until this season. This is Ashley’s first ever season with CSSC. She already wants to enroll again for the Spring Season!

We love meeting new opponents and figuring out their style of play. We always have fun and have met other teams who like to have fun and laugh with us.

'Berta Ball'd Eagles
Captain: David C

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Rec Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 12
Nominated by: Zane
History: The 'Berta Ball'd Eagles are a formidable Dodgeball team that has been dominating the courts since their inception in 2016 under the name "My Balls, Your Face". After six seasons, the team rebranded to reflect their soaring spirit. Our star player is the steely faced hotshot known as the "Laser Rhino". He strikes fear into many hearts as his ball turns the air into plasma as it slices its way through time, itself.

Grass in the V
Captain: Jenn C

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Rec Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 14
Nominated by: Freda
History: We are “Grass In The V”!

What started as an individual’s team back in 2014, kept going season after season with our captain, Jenn, stepping into the manager role in 2016. Team members changed every few seasons and some team members joined as small groups when our numbers were low – and when some of our team members needed a season off to recover from injuries.

We love to play soccer and we aspire to be a fun team that likes to get competitive to win (sometimes). Above all else, we enjoy reconnecting with our teammates, who have become good friends, week after week and challenge to keep each other active.

Thwompers
Captain: Rachel C

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 4
Nominated by: Sam
History: The team name is inspired by Mario! Our player nicknames include: Tiggs, Spicy P, Clapper Claggs, The E-Bomber, Pfister Oswald, Judo Jenn, The Pope, SBeve, Le'Brett, Radikal, Captain Clutch, J-Town, Bri-Dog, and Ryan.

We have played four seasons with the CSSC, and our team has grown in size each season because everyone has so much fun every when they come out to play!

Our favourite aspect of Multi-Sport is the variety! It's fun to try new and different things with the team, and we love to THWOMP!

No Regretskys
Captain: Dic C

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Rec Masters
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Cooper
History: We are No Regretskys!!

We are (L to R) back: Todd, Theresa, Ryan, Greg, Mark, Tonia

Front: Colleen, Vernon, Lauren, Dic.

Mark came up with the team name just this year (January 2023) and we all thought it was perfect. Although our roster hasn’t been the same, some version of this team has been in the league for just 1 1/2 years. What we love about Masters Ball Hockey, is that it is a great workout, it is great fun, it is very social, and we love the healthy competition!

Here to Serve
Captain: Steven K

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Indoor Volleyball
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Annica
History: We are Here to Serve and this is our second season in the Recreational tier of CSSC Indoor Volleyball. The name of our team comes from the eagerness to help in our community and our church. The senior pastor and people involved in our church in the NE of Calgary are part of our team. Here to serve is a motto of the volunteers at the church and it so happens that applies to the volleyball court, as we are literally all 'here to serve' at least a couple of times per game.

We were bottom of the league last season, and during this winter season we tried our best to turn things around, and managed to finish in first place for the play-offs. We love playing volleyball, as it allows everyone in our team (ages 18- to 50), to play and be part of a group effort. We play for the fun of building a stronger team, improve our volleyball skills, and as an excuse to hangout with our teammates.

Doses & Mimosas
Captain: Courtney Jay

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Andrea Ciaramella
History: We are Doses & Mimosas and this is only our second season as a multi-sport team with the CSSC! To be honest we couldn’t think of another team name we could all agree on and one lovely night some drinks were had and somehow we vetoed everything else and stumbled on this. We are still trying to smooth out the kinks and find out which sports we excel at and which ones we absolutely tank but every week we have lots of fun! It’s so awesome having a different sport to look forward to every week but man, we wish we had a second chance at a few... minus dodgeball! But hey, at least it gets us out of the house and meeting new people! Stoked for getting out in the sun soon! DOSES

Abominaballs
Captain: Kurtis Broda

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Multi-Sport
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Andrea Ciaramella
History: We are the Abominaballs. Don't let the name fool you, we're no monsters. We're just a group of friends that enjoy chasing a ball around then going for deep fried pickles and beer (or bellinis). We don't always win, but we always try to bounce back and never let the competition roll over us. Last season was our first time playing in the CSSC and we had a ball. We played in the 3 on 3 floor hockey league and decided to try out mulitsport this season. It's a whole new ball game every week. Keep the fun rolling.

Right Off The Bat
Captain: Tyson Bankert

Night/Div/Sport: Friday Recreational C Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 2
Nominated by: Robert
History: Right Off The Bat is excited for this nomination. This is our second year! Right Off the Bat means we get right off the bat and have fun at the beginning of the game. Every game, as team Captain. I announce the M.V.P for the game and hand out a mini trophy. We've got skilled and unskilled players! We have lots of fun joking and making our opponents feel like they're a part of our good vibes!

Captain: Shakeem Robinson

Night/Div/Sport: Thursday Recreational Outdoor Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Austin Mireault
History: Underwhere? has been playing in the CSSC since 2009. I just realized that means it's our 10 year anniversary this year! We still love to come out get some fresh air and spend time with longtime friends. We enjoy having a laugh and to compete. Father Time may have slowed us down a bit in 10 years, but we're still having a blast and we want you to have a good time too! Oh… And please feel free to take it easy on us old guys!

BDE Hitters
Captain: Leigh Bourque

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Plus Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 (Rookie Season!)
Nominated by: Rebecca Holmes
History: We are the BDE Hitters! We are a brand new Slo Pitch Team in the CSSC league. More than half of our team is completely new at the sport which gives us a different perspective of the game. Our team consists of 9 full time players and a handful of subs who try to come out to a few games! Despite our busy schedules being university students or freshly drop outs, we manage to put as much BDE into every game. Now what’s BDE you ask? It is everything our team embodies. Going into a game knowing you will most likely lose but making sure you have more energy, confidence and positivity than any other team – because that’s what makes you a real winner ;) We are 19-21 years old (with a couple foul balls) who met through post-secondary. We are from BC and Alberta. Our favourite aspect of the sport is the few times a game we do catch a ball or score a run!

The Bearded Kings
Captain: Andrew Roebuck

Night/Div/Sport: Wednesday Recreational Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 1 (Rookie Season!)
Nominated by: Nicole MacInnis
History: We are the bearded kings, we are a company team! This is our first season with CSSC. We love this game! It’s so much fun and then best thing about it is when we have teams that are there to have fun. We love to play this game with others who also love the game!

Team Bio
Rat Daddies
Captain: Jordan Swanson

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Plus Slo-Pitch
Seasons in the CSSC: 16
Nominated by: Nicole Leong
History: Most of us met in university, and though we've had a few players come and go over the years, we're currently in our 6th year and 16th season with CSSC. Our team name came about one summer night when a bunch of us were hanging out on a friend's trampoline, slowly getting pulled into the middle, until intertwined limbs made it difficult to get out. It reminded one of our players of a strange Wikipedia article he had read about rats whose tails become entangled, and form a single sentient being known as a rat king (or rat daddy). We're a big group of friends who do a ton of activities together, so it just seemed fitting to name our team the Rat Daddies. We enlisted the help of a friend to design a logo, found a ridiculous Christmas tree outfit as a strikeout punishment, and our team was born. Now we look forward to Sunday afternoons every weekend from April to October.

ZGM

We’ve never played any other sport together, but we try to bring a lot of energy, positivity, and fun. While we may not be the best at knowing all the rules, or stopping on second base, we love being outside, being social and having fun.

Thunder Ninja Kids
Captain: Cynthia Nilsson

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational B Dodgeball
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Brook Graham
History: The Thunder Ninja Kids are named after a ridiculous movie from the 80s where martial arts genius children defeat evil. It is a terrible movie and all of our members are old enough to have watched it, so we’ve been playing for a while.

Team Bio
Buk Hockey
Captain: Seema King

Night/Div/Sport: Monday Recreational Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 10+
Nominated by: Dana Andrews
History: Our team name was initially created as we wanted something to represent our lifestyle.  We try to live the “Buk-Wild” life and mixing that with our love of hockey; Buk + Hockey = Buk Hockey.  We particularly liked our name as “Buk Hockey” sounded like a large, bold, and vicious team name when, truth be told, none of us are exemplary in size or ball handling skills. We hope to continue to play together for many more years to come, rather in Floor Hockey or any of the multiple other sports provided by the CSSC.  We sincerely appreciate being selected for the Lady Bing and hope to continue playing with a ‘fun-first’ attitude to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

Polar Bears
Captain: Shawn Hyer

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5
Nominated by: Josh Idowu
History: The Polar Bears are a group formed with wonderful teammates both new and old. Our love for sport and making friends is what brings us together and unites us. Our team isn’t a group of people that have known each other forever but a group of people that definitely know how to have fun! Thanks to the CSSC we get to share our interests on the field and off the field with an occasional drink and bite to eat. We believe we’re a prime example of where there’s passion in your heart and good people around, fun isn’t too far away either.

Team Bio
District 5
Captain: Jeff Lindstrom

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational A Ball Hockey
Seasons in the CSSC: 5
Nominated by: Matt Armstrong
History: The origin of our team number was from a Mighty Ducks movie.  More of less the under dog team trying to prevail! I would say this is probably our 5th season and typically play in the Winter and Spring. I love playing goalie as it’s something I’ve done since I was a kid.  Growing up I played a lot of street hockey and floor hockey.  The captain of our team introduced me to the CSSC and that you have Floor Hockey as a sport so needless to say I was super excited to be able to play again! Coincidentally they needed a goalie too! Some players have come and gone over the years but most of our core has stayed intact. Just wanted to say we enjoy playing floor hockey with the CSSC and I tell friends and clients about it and your leagues.  I really find it’s a good way to break up the week, get some exercise, socialize and have some fun!

History: Injured AF-C is the greatest iteration of a team that has been running for 5 years! Our skills include keeping the ball too long, missing chances, postgame drinking, being best friends, and injuring ourselves. Our awesome & often injured roster includes: Allie, Amjad, Barry, Chris & Felicia, Christina, Colin & Taylor, Dylan & Sophie, Hardip, Kara (C) & Moose (A), Leo, Linsay, Lindsey, Liz, Mike x2, Patrick, Ray, and Tom!

Dandelion Kickers
Captain: Brittany Fleck

Night/Div/Sport: Tuesday Recreational Gym Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Josh Idowu
History: This team stayed together for over two years switching between indoor/outdoor/turf soccer (and one volleyball championship while maintaining the Dandelion Kickers team name). With a hiccup in timing, we needed to move nights this past fall and were only able to maintain a small core group of people. Picking up some new faces we are continuing to be active and more importantly having fun!

It's About To Get Messi
Captain: Ursula Welsh

Night/Div/Sport: Sunday Recreational Boarded Turf Soccer
Seasons in the CSSC: 5+
Nominated by: Josh Idowu
History: Our team name is "It's About To Get Messi". Our soccer team has played in CSSC for 3 years now.  We love being able to get active in a fun environment with our friends. We have players from all different backgrounds, and playing soccer has really brought us together. CSSC has given us the opportunity to share fun experiences on and off the field.
