History: Our team has played 3 seasons with the CSSC, and is named after the Juggernaut…  but with a softball twist so obviously cooler! Were kind of like a cracker jack box, you never know who or what you’re going to get, but we always show up ready to play. Our favorite aspect of the game is chirping our own team members, because it’s so much more fun when you can give each other a hard time! We do have nicknames on the back of our shirts, some of them obviously cooler than others

History: We are a newly formed team playing for the first time in the Spring 2019 season. Our fav thing about softball is the social aspect of the sport and that it allows people of all skill levels to play. We have been having a lot of fun so far and hope to continue playing for many seasons to come!

History: We have played some variation of multi-sport for something like ten seasons now at least.  The current members of the squad are me (Dylan), Sara, Allie, Taylor, Shayla, Matt Hall, Matt Little, Justin (Murph), Rob, Kyle, and Simon.  The Matts, Sara, Allie, Simon, and myself have been playing on this team for something like 5 years now I think.  Our old name, which was some variation of 'Duck, Duck, Sports'; or 'Sport Sport Goose', came from the first time we signed up for multi-sport as individuals and the name we were given was 'Sports! Sports! Sports!'.  We made some changes from there, basically.  We like multi-sport because it gives us a good variety, and even though some weeks aren't your favourite sport, its always a good time.

History: We have been playing on and off as a ball hockey team since Summer 2014. We started off as "Squirtle Squad", then transitioned to "Hydrophobia" and finally "Phobophobia". We come together as a team every summer to play our favourite sport. It's a great way for us to catch up and hang out with our friends during the warmer months.

History: From the left to right we have Evan, Aaron, Elaine, Brett, William, Raymon, Marek, Jobelle, Henry, Andy, and Joanne. Missing in our team photo are Pat, Fidelia, and our main goalie Harjot. The origin of our team name comes from a video game called League of Legends. We wanted to start off humble and at the bottom, and at the time “Bronze V” was the lowest rank in the game. I think naming helped in convincing and welcoming our new players at the time to the sport and set up our success in keeping a light hearted but competitive and constructive team setting. Our team has played 6 seasons with CSSC. Our favourite aspect of playing floor hockey in the CSSC is getting the chance to spend quality time, building team chemistry, and watching our core team grow. Our latest accomplishment was reaching the finals last season which was a major shock but well deserved for our team who puts in their best, and keeps our spirits high even when considered the underdogs (or at least as our team name would suggest).

History: Hi everyone, we are the Baby Belugas! This is our first season as a formal team after graduating from individual team status. Our favourite part about our team is that we get to play a new sport each week and then after each game we go discover a new place to socialize. As many of our team-members moved to Calgary we have grown as friends, thus leading to experiencing other team activities on the weekends. Why we are named the Baby Belugas is because after each game we have a stuffed “trophy” that we give to the Beluga Player of the Game (Super cool, I know!)  The members on our team are Julia, Celia, Alisha, Jake, Landon, Edbert, Lawrence, Ermin, Mike, Liam, and Tammy!

History: Buk Hockey is made up of 8 guys and 6 girls each with their own special talents and abilities.  The six girls, Erin(“The Moves”), Jen(“The Pirate”), Stacy(“The Handler”), Seema(“The Bruiser”), Emily (“The Bait”), Mel (“The Fluffer”) were friends in a tight inner circle who first began the team.  The boys, Connor (“Flash”), Mike H.(“Bulls Eye”), Braden (“short stick”), Mike J (“The Finisher”), Nic (“Big stick”), Dylan (“The invisible man”), Ashton (“Quick Shoot”), and the goaltender Anthony (“The Ground ”) were initially outsiders but eventually came together as a team. 

We have now played together as a team for over 3 years playing every season with a mix of floor hockey multiple days a week and soccer. Although our performance has at times been lacking, we seem to end up always finishing on a strong note with teamwork and fun as our main priority.   We play floor hockey through the CSSC to get out and socialize as a group, however, to our surprise, our hockey team performed much better than expected due to the shot blocking capability of our girls who would willingly drop to their knees to stop a hard incoming shot from hitting “The Ground”.   The boys, who can’t quite keep up to the stamina and eagerness of the girls, are still getting more and more practice and improving with each game.

We hope to continue to play together for many more years to come, rather in Floor Hockey or any of the multiple other sports provided by the CSSC.  We sincerely appreciate being selected for the Lady Bing and hope to continue playing with a ‘fun-first’ attitude to make the game more enjoyable for everyone.

History: Our team, The Dodgefathers, has been playing together for about three years. We play fall/winter seasons to seasons active in the cold weather. The whole reason we play is to have fun! Our team values fair play, and equal playing time between males and females. This team picture was taken this year at Halloween.  We dressed up for our game.

History: Team Sweep DMC has a long and vibrant history as curlers - there curling career began in September 2019. They took the Thursday night league by storm. Decked out in Adidas, gold chains and boom box on shoulder, Ivan, Amanda, Sarah and Rob “rocked” out each week. Every time they stepped out on the sheet, the curling community would hear “cuz it’s like that, and that’s the way it is”. Their children still do not understand the awesomeness and history behind their team name, and insist that the Infinity Stones would have been much cooler.

History: The BABE Facility softball team is composed of a group of nerds, including our supervisor, Dr. Michael Kallos, who have (clearly) never played softball before - but are having a ton of fun trying it out. We are engineering undergraduate and graduate students who design tools and protocols for the large-scale production of stem cells and cell products. We are actually known as the Pharmaceutical Production Research Facility - but have internally remained ourselves the Bioprocess Application and Biomaterial Engineering Facility - BABE Facility. For the purpose of CSSC the acronym can also be Baseball And Bioprocess Engineering.

History: While each of us love playing softball, the ability to do it with each other is what keeps us coming back.  While some faces have changed over time the core of our team goes back over 10 years with the CSSC.  While we don't have nicknames for each other you can earn one in a hurry because we like nothing better than to give each other a hard time.  Win or lose our bench can be a tough place to be if you aren't there to have fun.  We have suffered a whole lot of losing seasons as well as some winning ones and we have had enjoyed them all equally.  As long as it's ball season and we have a team we are happy.

History: Pet Peeves has played with the CSSC for over 3 years. We started as a team of veterinarians (hence the team name “Pet Peeves”) that wanted to get together and play floor hockey. We have since grown and changed to include a variety of other professionals but we still have a few “vets” from the original team (pun intended). We enjoy the sport and the team comradery, which is why we keep playing.

History: Our team name is the Pugs named after the little star in the middle there, Max. It’s our first season playing together and we try to bring as many dogs as possible to each game (unless if it’s too hot out for Max #pugprobs).

History: Meet The Amigos! We are an enthusiastic soccer team playing in the Summer 2.0 league. Our team was born after a few of us girls got tired of watching the guys play sports from the sidelines. So, we decided to play/learn a new sport all together! This is our first season playing soccer together with the CSSC, and we can’t wait to keep playing!

History: We are Super Average Team. We have played basketball the past 10 consecutive seasons, and have played a few seasons prior. We also have many other players playing different sports throughout the year. We love playing with a fun first mentality and pride ourselves on being average. Our favorite part is having an excuse to see each other at least once a week and going to wing nights after the game. Thank you for the nomination!

History: The team came together because my wife and I wanted to play a sport together with our friends, and slo-pitch is perfect for us as it’s a sport that can be played by all skill levels but most importantly it’s something that allows us to be social and interact with others. We always have a  fun first attitude and so many members of the team go the extra mile to make sure that our opponents are in on the fun too. We cheer for all big plays, for any team, and strive for an encouraging and positive atmosphere. We are very thankful for the nomination, it means a lot to us that we stood out and made someone’s experience better.

History: Our name, The Ball Dogtors, is because most of our players are in vet school at the U of C together. Dogtors, because we work with dogs, and “balls” is hopefully self-explanatory. This is our second season with CSSC, we played in the Spring and now the Summer. We love soccer because it is great exercise and a good way to get together consistently with friends. We may not be the best team out there, but we definitely have a lot of fun.

History: Our hockey team started in January of 2018. It was only meant to be for one season but we had so much fun, we decided to sign up again. We've created a strong bond within the team as you can see in our team Christmas party photo. We're now organizing team events each month and a different person is responsible for organizing such events. Despite everyone's busy schedule, it's great that we can get together each week and compete.

History: Hey we're Tequila Mockingbird! We're in our second season playing together in the CSSC Multisport league. Our team members are Jenna, Jess, Jenn, Sharon, Andrew, John, Garret, Ty, Roy and Alex. We love the challenge of playing a new sport every week, but we love post-game DQ trips even more!

History: Our team began with the CSSC as a slow pitch team about six years ago. We decided just playing the summer season wasn’t enough, and a few years ago decided to play floor hockey as well! The majority of the team have known each other for at least ten years, so we love having the opportunity to get together once a week to catch up and stay active! We heard the phrase, “Bardownski”, on the show Letterkenny, and thought it would be a great name for us. Not because we can actually do a Bardownski, but because we wanted to intimidate the stiff competition. We love being supportive of each other, and giving 110%!

History: A true rags to riches, made for Hollywood story, the Designated Drinkers come from humble beginnings. After a failed recruiting campaign where their captain asked random strangers walking around downtown Calgary to join the team, the team settled with a ragtag group of friends from South Calgary. This bunch of misfits really knows how to take the fun first, winning second motto seriously. With a win percentage well into the teens, the highlight of most games are the orange slices and Koolaid Jammers at half time. Some may argue this is an unfair advantage akin to performance enhancing drugs. All you have to do is come check out one of their games to realize they need every advantage they can get. The Designated Drinkers have attempted to play many sports together, from handball to softball to multisport, but still haven't found their niche. They're still waiting on CSSC to come out with a competitive beer darts league so that they may have a shot at the league champs title. You may be concerned at the amount of yelling that goes on during their games. Don’t worry though, the Designated Drinkers aren’t yelling at their opponents. Those insults are bound to be directed towards one of their teammates as the team thrives best with negative reinforcement. With the friendships that are built, and destroyed, and rebuilt on a weekly basis the Designated Drinkers will be a team to be reckoned with for years to come.

History:The Servezas have a bit of a unique story. We started out playing volleyball against each other in junior high. Don Bosco vs St. Vincent. Added a few more to the rivalry in high school. Bishop Grandin vs. St. Francis. Through the university years we really got to know each other, turning our opposition into friendship. In 2013, we decided to take our collective volleyball passion and join forces, creating the team of 9 we have today. We have been on the same side of the net for five years now playing in the Tuesday Women’s league. We love catching up every week, offering support or congratulations or whatever any of the girls need from the team that week. We are there for each other and have become a tight knit group. Our favourite part of the sport is the team aspect and the friendship. The championships we’ve won don’t suck either ;)

History: A long long time ago, a small group of coworkers working for a transportation company signed up to play dodgeball. Now, after 7 seasons, our team has evolved to include double the Adam’s, double the Mark’s, Heather, Lauren, Peter, Arianna and Tanya!   The best part of our Wednesday night, is getting together, playing dodgeball and laughing with / at one another.  After most games, you can find us at the local Dairy Queen, we’d love for you to join us!

History: Sport Sport Goose is primarily made up of Sara, Dylan, Allie, Brooke, Justin, Simon, Luke, Matt L., & Jess. We have a large sub-roster that usually comes full-time in the summer (special shout out to Jen, Katie, Matt H., Conrad, Kyle, Matt C.). We don’t have any nicknames per say, but Brooke is known for falling down in EVERY sport, and Matt L. is known as having bricks for hands lol

Our team has roster changes frequently, but our core team has played around 3 years together through the different seasons. What we love about the Multi-Sport league is that it takes us back to gym class days and caters to everyone’s individual strengths. We also absolutely love how multi-sport gives us an easy excuse to go for wings at least once a week. We may not be the biggest team-but we sure do laugh the most!

We’ve been playing team sports (primarily with CSSC) for 12 years now. Primarily Dodgeball (27 seasons), Kickball (1 Season), Grass Volleyball (3 Seasons), Ultimate Frisbee (1 Season) and now indoor volleyball Legends which we switched to reduce the injuries we were seeing from Dodgeball.  Originally we were going to switch to Multisport to try and bunch of sports before selecting but the league sold out on us. We already had our name ready to go Leeloo Dallas Multisport! So we tweaked the name and jumped on volleyball.

Our favourite aspect is the inter-team interaction, the camaraderie, the laughs, the mocks. Its just a blast always, and even better when the team on the other side enjoys it as well.
