Padel has entered the chat as the CSSC's newest sport!
What in the world is 'Padel', you ask? Based on the amount of fun our staff had playing Padel for the very first time at our Learn-a-Sport session, it's a game that has potential to the most electrifying racquet sport in the 2020s (watch out Pickleball). Padel combines some of the best elements of Squash, Tennis and Pickleball, and evolves into one dynamic sport that all of our staff loved and can't wait to play again.
The enclosed glass walls that surround the court is what truly makes Padel stand out, with a playing surface that's in between the size of Tennis and Pickleball courts. The game utilizes a unique paddle and slightly modified Tennis balls, to slow down the pace that the ball can travel in comparison to Tennis. Here are a few highlights from our staff playing Padel for the first time:
Looks pretty sweet, right? Don't get me wrong, I love me some Tennis, but I don't love when the tennis ball blasts off of my racket and lands 20 feet 'out' shot after shot. Tennis takes time to gain familiarity on how to properly hit the ball, whereas Padel is a lot easier to pick up and all of our staff felt the same way. Any new game can require hours of practice to sharpen up your skills, but by the end of our 90-minute session we had staff smashing balls, returning shots off the walls, and rallies were continually getting more exciting as we all improved. One of the great things about Padel is that even if someone blows a shot passed you, there's still hope to keep the rally alive with the glass walls having your back!
Seb and Micayla were the team to beat off the hop and had strong intentions of going undefeated after successfully beating the other six duos present. But remember CSSCers, it's not always about how you start, it's about how you finish, and their reign as an undefeated team eventually came to a close. No matter how many wins/losses each team stacked up, it was unanimous that Padel RULES!
I'm throwing out an CSSC guarantee that it will be a 'love at first play' type of dynamic the moment you start playing Padel. Now if you'll excuse me, I need to go book some time at True Padel because I literally can't wait to play again.
