Indoor Turf Shoes vs. Cleats

It’s easy to assume that when playing in a CSSC Turf Soccer League, you should be wearing indoor turf shoes, right? Wrong. Here’s why…

All of the facilities we use in our Turf Soccer line-up use artificial grass; this material uses an infill in the mat, giving the surface far more cushioning than Astroturf (which uses a dense rubber mat) and acts more like artificial earth. This infill is made of materials such as sand and rubber crumbs which look like little black beads all throughout the playing field. These beads actually provide you with better traction, more shock absorption, and natural footing, especially when compared to Astroturf.

Here, we actually recommend wearing normal soccer cleats because the artificial grass is thick enough and the mat used is more pliable, allowing normal soccer cleats to dig in similar to real earth/grass, giving you better traction and more natural footing during your game.

Of course, you are welcome to wear indoor turf shoes if that’s what fancies you, but since they are designed for Astroturf fields, their hard outsoles and raised threads are actually made to grip a more dense turf field and will provide you with minimal traction/footing on artificial grass.

Have fun out there!
